To intel or not to intel

Apple customers buy Apple because: - it's simplicity - the harmonious way different parts are working together - it's different - it's beautiful - 90% of the market consists of nitwits Windows customers buy Windows because: - compatibility - theoretically more choice - they know it -...

My MacOSX has gotten faster! Is it updating itself or something?

Updater checked last time mar 27 1:30 am. Log is greyed out. I just checked manually for updates. Nothing changed. My about this mac still says 4K78...

    OS X 4L5

I'm amazed, I noticed everything got faster without changing something as far as I know. Did OS X update itself??? (see also my separate thread about this...)

My MacOSX has gotten faster! Is it updating itself or something?

Am I getting crazy??? I don't think I really changed anything, but MacOS X is getting more responsive all the time... I first thought it was because Classic wasn't running. But it appeared to *be* running.

Cubase users: OS X forces Classic to use virtual memory!

Are you saying that realtime applications like Cubase might not work well under OS X in the near future? How about all the other multimedia support? Isn't Quicktime a realtime application? Or is there anything I don't undestand about your post?

Cubase users: OS X forces Classic to use virtual memory!

Now I know why Steinberg's Cubase won't run under classic and why it probably won't in the forseeable future...

Fwee... I'm not such a complaining kind of guy, but...

    1. Stripy windows combined with transparency makes me sick. 2. OS 9 behaves more like water than Aqua! 3. I have a hard time to get used to the new folder configuration, especially since in OS X, I don't have the privileges to change my old folders. 4. Dock folder menus must go a lot...

Does anyone know how easily OS X will fit in a common Windows office network?

I have little knowledge of the underlying technology in company networks. But in offices, I usually see Windows machines running Office applications on a network. They communicate with MS Outlook. I know that it's possible to connect current Macs to these systems with some Mac-Windows file...

    A Centered Menu Bar

Every night I pray the dock will turn out to be optionally located in the menubar, so it will always be visible, while not taking valuable pixels. For the rest: nothing should be centered. If centered, nothing stays at the same place, if anyone knows what I mean. Piet

Interface philosophy: less is *not* more, anymore. Aqua lacks Windows features!.

Having read Admiral's post, I think I didn't make myself clear. All I want to say is that Apple needs to give people something they *expect*, unless it's something really bad. Twenty years ago, it was a desktop. Now, it's Windows. Okay, no-one is using the desktop metaphor anymore...

Interface philosophy: less is *not* more, anymore. Aqua lacks Windows features!.

Jobs is still living 20 years ago. His philosophy: keep the interface simple, so no-one gets lost. Once, he used the desktop metaphor, so people understood what they were doing. That was great, then. But these days, everyone has used a computer once or more. Usually Windows, sometimes Unix or...

    Dock *inside* menu bar

I'm not being sarcastic, BoLinDilly. I hope to collect and generate Dock ideas in this thread. That's why I thank you. Generally, Aqua looks like a very minimal interface, lacking a lot of basic features, but with a lot of possibilities. I hope Apple finds time to implement a lot of them...

    Dock *inside* menu bar

Does A-Dock let *every* folder placed in it evoke a hierarchical menu, just like the Apple menu? Is A-Dock always visible, without taking valuable screen estate? No! This is exactly why I think Taskmenubar is better than the Aqua Dock, A-Dock and even GoMac. List of Taskmenubar...

    MacOS X Sucks

The first replies in this thread surprised me because of their reasonability. Usually, Mac users get pretty unreasonable when people say their platform is dead. Thus, the latter replies are very disappointing. I use Mac and PC, but the Mac is my most commonly used computer. My...

    Dock *inside* menu bar

In the dock discussion, I'm missing the concept 'dock inside menu bar'. It would mean a great option for those with >= 1024 x 768 resolutions, like me. I got this idea from the wonderful OS 9 extension called 'Taskmenubar'. This extension does everything I want the dock to do, *inside the...

    How well do games run?

Startcraft works very well, apart from two things: My two-button mouse don't work like they do under OS 9, which is bad if you were used to it. The cursor looks strange in the set-up screens, but during the game itself, it looks like usual.

    MS Office 2001

MS says Office 2001 will be carbonized by next summer. Of course, that's pretty late. I think they don't want to raise to much expectations for it to be earlier and bug-free. And they should be especially careful about the availability of drivers when OS X is released. They can't control that...

    Epson 740 drivers?

Seems like in the Classic environment, USB is the bottleneck. Almost none of my USB stuff functions. If that's true, classic programs could use classic drivers, once USB functions in the classic environment. Is that right? If it is, howcome my mouse and keyboard are working???

    Aqua Icon Builder

Thanks Franky, I downloaded it and it's beautiful! It also supports OS X icons, as you probably already knew. From the program, it appears that OS X uses bitmaps for icons. I thought they would be little PDF-like, layered, vector based files, like most of aqua should be. This is a bit of a...

    Aqua Icon Builder

When a folder alias is placed in the Dock, there'll be no room for the name of it. This will be a problem if you put a lot of aliases of folders in the Dock; they'll be hard to tell apart. Therefore, it would be handy if there was a little free icon building application. Using the aqua...
