    MacBook Air!

    I think it's cool but it doesn't have a market IMO. People who are attracted to the prettyness but don't care about specs will be put off by the price. Those who like the prettyness but also care about the specs will be put off by the price and specs. It isn't small enough for an ultra-portable...

    Official MacWorld 2008 Thread

    My 2 cents: Love: - New AppleTV interface available to existing ATV's. That was a nice surprise, and a nice change for apple. - MacBook Air (not that I would want one, but very cool) - firmware 1.1.3 looks great, though will now have to wait until it gets jailbroken (also, the...

    Amazon threatens iTunes

    absolutely. I'm no Steve Jobs, but it seems to me what Apple should do to strike back is: 1) Allow podcasters to charge for their episodes and/or allow anyone to offer their videos in the TV and Movie store. 2) Offer independent artists on iTunes with no DRM. The former may scare TV...

    Convert BluRay Disks to AppleTV

    you can't do it yet, at least not in the same way you can with DVDs. Your best bet is to use the analogue hole. If you have something that can get HD signals into your computer, like an EyeTV or some kind of AV receiver box, you might be able to do it that way. for example, buy a standalone...

    For 2008, I wish that Apple...

    I"m wishing for an update to AppleTV -- preferably a software update. I'll be more than a little miffed if they release a new ATV with new features, and leave the current ATVs behind altogether. I'm hoping for a software update for existing ATVs, much like what MS did for older Zune owners.

    Extend Leopard's Quick Look

    great find! There's an illustrator plugin there, which I have been really wanting. the one listed on the site costs money though, so I found through the comments a link to a free version. I installed the plugin and it works fine, though the thumbnails for .ai files are considerably smaller...

    using iPhone dock in Australia; voltage issues?

    thanks for the help guys -- just posting to say I took the plunge and plugged it in. All is fine :) So for future reference, I can confirm it is OK to use the power brick that comes with the iPhone in an Australian outlet.

    Apple sanctions custom ringtones through GarageBand

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307108 I didn't see this coming -- with the new GarageBand update, you can now send songs to iPhone as a ringtone. It requires firmware version 1.1.2, so those using jailbroken 1.1.1 iPhones can't do this just yet, but great to see Apple doing...

    iTunes Canada now has TV shows

    Yes, not the best selection, but it's a start I guess! You have to wonder if this is a lame attempt at distracting Canadians from the 5 ton elephant in the room...

    Lynda.com to ipod conversion

    VisualHub is king, but if all you need to do is convert files for iPod, then Techspansion have a free version of VisualHub called iSquint which works the same, but is restricted to only video to iPod conversion. I notice you mentioned the Quicktime files were protected, though. If the video...

    My first iPhone web app :)

    Just for fun, I created a little Web app for the iPhone that i'd love to get some feedabck on. I needed a shopping list app, and while oneTrip is great, I found there were a couple of issues: 1) most of the time I found entering items manually was easier than cycling through the menus...

    iMac G5 & EyeTV on Leopard; slow playback

    I have an EyeTV 200 hooked up through firewire to my iMac G5 2Ghz. I've used it for 2 years with no problems, but after upgrading to Leopard the playback is extremely slow and unwatchable. I've tried upgrading to the latest leopard-compatible version of EyeTV v2 software, and downgrading to...

    Old Mac with USB 1 and iPod?

    My sister has an eMac with USB 1 and syncs her iPod video fine. It takes a ridiculous amount of time to do the initial sync (hours, depending on how big your iTunes library is), but after that it doesn't take very long, as it's just updating the songs or Podcasts added since the last time it was...

    iPhone unlock :: Europe

    keep in mind, though, it's not that big a jump from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2. In fact, Gizmodo described the new features in the 1.1.2 release as: Unless you need one of those languages, there really isn't anything to miss in the update.

    installing windows xp sp2

    as the others point out -- your XP CD needs to be SP2 already, it can't be done after the fact unfortunately. I had the same issue with my XP CD, but I got it working by following these tutorials: Slipstreaming SP1: http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp1_cd.htm Slipstreaming SP2...

    iPhone unlock :: Europe

    A thread regarding downgrading from 1.1.2 to 1.1.1 http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=15272 seems to be a great resource (was linked to in Gizmodo, in case that adds credibility), with many follow up reply posts. it is possible to do, so don't let elander scare you; It just means...

    How Do You Remove Apps?

    My understanding is that it is not possible to add or remove apps without hacking the phone. I'm not sure what you're referring to when you say you can "add apps off the Apple website"? Are you sure you're not thinking of their Web apps directory? Apple has been cunningly ambiguous about the...

    using iPhone dock in Australia; voltage issues?

    My iPhone arrived today, imported from the USA, unlocked and absolutely amazing :D I love it. Obviously, it came with those funny american power prongs, so I swapped it out with the equally-amusing Australian duckhead prongs I had laying around from my MacBook Pro power attachment...

    Next MacWorld Agenda

    I don't buy the ultra-portable touch screen MacBook rumors. I doesn't make sense -- IMO the iPhone over the next few years will morph into an ultra portable mac. I think OS X 10.6 will run on the iPhone (ie. not a stripped down version like the iPhone's OS X is now)
