I just installed the 5.0.4 update and now file transfers via wireless are dog slow, around 500 k/s as opposed to around 2.5 MB/s with 5.0.3. I want to reinstall 5.0.3 but can't find it *anywhere*, it's like it never existed. Is there anyone out there that still has it? Please? :(

1280x960 on my 17" CRT studio display. 1024x768 just doesn't look right on it, makes all the fonts look stretched horizontally. Edit: Oops! I meant 1280*1024 looks stretched, not 1024*768...

I installed it and restarted but Software Update keeps asking me if I want to install it. I've installed it twice now... but after each restart it keeps popping up and telling me that it "has found a new update". Something I would expect from the crummy Windows machines I end up fixing all day...

You may have a point there, Seagate only offer a one year warranty as opposed to WD's three years... but they are quiet :D

To be honest with you I'm not really sure, I've never used DSL or set up a Mac network before, but I agree that Apple could be a lot clearer as to exactly what is and is not possible.

I'd also recommend a Seagate for the quietness factor.

Because if it's not connected to broadband, and someone on the other end is using the net via the built in modem, then all you'll get is an engaged signal when you try to call your AEBS.

I think only ATI makes after-market PCI video cards for Macs. Since this is the case, you'll need a PCI Radeon card to be able to enable Quartz Extreme on your G3. Any will do, but I recommend the Radeon 7000 for price/performance. After you've installed it, head on over here to find out how to...

Yes you can dial into your LAN remotely via the 56k modem in the AEBS, but the question is can you only access the LAN or can you also access the internet (i.e. if the AEBS is connected to broadband internet)? Could anyone with one of these base stations verify this?

Oops, I just realised that installing 10.2.4 had disabled my PCI Quartz Extreme hack :p So after a spot of bother I enabled it again, and now have my cross fading desktop back :D

I just noticed that if you have your desktop picture set to change every so often, there is no longer a "fading in and out" transition. It just changes from one to the other - BANG. I loved that Quartz fade in and out effect, why did Apple have to go and remove it?? :(

If Apple suddenly makes bluetooth keyboards standard issue then they'd have to ditch the USB ports on each end. Personally I find these ports extremely handy for hot swapping the USB devices that I own. For this reason, IMO, I can't see Apple coming out with bluetooth keyboards anytime soon -...

Perhaps he was referring to the differences between last year's and this year's Mirror Drive Door models? I too would like to know how to tell the difference because the newer ones are supposed to be much quieter.

I've never owned a laptop myself, but I've always wondered what exactly happens when you close the lid and it goes to sleep? For example fink is compiling something in the terminal... does it just pause the compilation and continue where it left off before you closed the lid?
