Won’t read DVD-video discs, and slow CD read speed

YAY! Suddenly managed to read a DVD under OS9, apperas maybe to be a dirty lens or something!? LATER NOTE: The DVD I managed to read, also had DVD-ROM content, wich makes sense since it can read the Apple Software Restore without problems. This drives me crazy.....

Won’t read DVD-video discs, and slow CD read speed

Hi! For a long time my Ti PowerBook has been reading cd’s slowly, nearly since I got it I think. And now. 2 months later, it won’t accept DVD-video disc’s. Whenever I insert one, it makes weird noises and spits it out again. What’s happening, is it a firmware problem? Maybe it’s since I...

    Voodoo "????" Process

I’m having the same here. Anybody has a clue what this is? I’ve been worried sick that it’s a virus or something. (I ran the public beta of Symantec Antivirus 9, and it found a viros on some OS 9 files, I believe it was SevenDust A/B) Help anyone?

    PowerBook memory

Thanks, but I live in Norway. So ordering from the U.S. would probably not be the easiest way around. :D

    PowerBook memory

Or, more specific. If I buy some RAM where the voltage isn’t specified? What’s the standard?

Allright! Thanks! So it doesn’t matter weather the chip is 3,3 Volt or 3,5 volt?

    PowerBook memory

I´ve recently purchased a new PowerBook from Apple with 256 megabytes RAM to go with it. But, of course I want more. I didn‘t buy more from Apple originally because I thought it was too expensive for that extra 256 chip. However, my question is: What specs should the RAM i buy have...

    Apple´s future

I forgot one point though; What if Apple "took over" the computer market? You would have ONE company making the computers, OS and software. So much for the free market. Of course, this is never going to happen. But I just figured, Mac sales going up. How will the future be shaped for...

    Apple´s future

I´ve done some thinking. I´ts clear that in this situation. Apple will never "take over" the computer market. People will continue to use PC´s for this simple reason: PC´s are the standard of computers. You could compare it with cars. PC´s would be the ordinary car that everybody buys...

    Switchers

Judging from what I´ve read on this forum, Apple´s switch campaign seems to be working. :)

    don't "switch"

Well, most people I´ve spoken to have had no problems with XP.

    don't "switch"

You know what really hits me here on this forum? That once somebody comes with just slight criticscism of mac os x, somebody just slaps him or her in the face this standard story of how good this OS really is and how much Microsoft sucks. Hey, I like MacOSX, but I can still see it´s faults...

    get info into column view!

Yes! That´s brilliant! And the info would stick to the window. So if you want to compare two folder f.ex. you could open a new window. Go for this one Apple!!!

    get info into column view!

Something like this would be great! No need to bring up that get info window when there´s all that free space in the column view! What do you think?

Still slower than IE Classic, but hey. I don´t want to be pessimistic though :)

    Better use of Dock

The Dock is great. Although I´d like to see the contextual menus used better, especially a feature to close a window directly using a simple command (mentioned earlier here). What about the application icons? Here´s what I think should be in the applications contextual menus: Mail: Check...

    About Web Browsers....

But if everybody just were to follow the STANDARDS, things would never move on. Somebody wants to push the borders of what´s possible to do with the web. And I´d like the mac to also be able to display all of that whacko stuff that some folks make.

    About Web Browsers....

Could we have a professional web-coder to comment this? That would be nice... Remember, web coding is more than HTML. It isn´t web pages with HTML-only that OmniWeb and other browsers aren´t compatible with. It´s all that CSS and JavaScript stuff.
