    10.4 Features!

Could you please link me to these reports? I find it hard to believe Apple would work on a full, decent OS X implementation of Mono: if they were to do it properly, for example, they'd have to get Windows.Forms working through Aqua. Cool, of course, if it could be done at all (the interface...

    Mac PDA !

Wow, that thing look like utter shit. Let's face it anyway: PDAs are dead. Sony's pulled the Clié. Palm sales are down. Mobile phones are absorbing all the organising functions you could ever need. No, I think the most likely new Apple device to surface is some sort of remote control for their...

    What's left for WWDC?

Because Apple is a hardware company. They don't make a lot of money on MacOS sales, and if they allowed MacOS to be run on platforms not sold by them, they'd die. C'mon people, it isn't that hard.

Is the new Location Manager still in?

I'm pretty damn sure I read about Panther having an all-new Location Manager, where all the System Prefs would be able to be controlled per-location, like the Network settings can be in Jaguar. I haven't heard any more about it: do we have it or has it sunk without trace?

Firewire appears as a network port

It was a shaky beta for ages - you could get it from the Apple dev site. They've finished it at last, looks very interesting...

    Missing Accounts Pref Pane

Hi, Well, it's exactly as it sounds: my Accounts pref pane is missing. I had to restart unexpectedly the other day, so I reckon /System/Library/PreferencePanes/Accounts.prefPane is corrupt. Is there a good way to restore this, or could someone .dmg up theirs (OS 10.2.6) and put it somewhere...

    User Switching Question

That's great news, i was about to ask the same question! Now, is there an option to turn this off, like if you had something processor-intensive going and you wanted to lock the whole machine to you? That would be equally useful :) edit: another question: when multiple users are logged in, do...

    Linksys + Airport Extreme Compatability?

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has had any problems/good experiences with the latest Linksys Access Points (specifically the WRT54G) when used with Airport Extreme. I've heard dodgy things in the past, so it'd be great to hear good stuff! Thanks in anticipation...

My iBook won't boot properly >:-(

Ok. It all started when I changed the startup folder to OS 9 on my Nov 2002 iBook under OS 10.2.6. I rebooted, and was greeted with the Happy Computer...for about 3 seconds, upon which the Question Mark System Folder icon was presented. Ok, i thought, let's try a few tricks: Option on boot...

    Memory and Game Speed

Hi all, Warcraft III runs pretty ok on my nov2002 iBook (800MHz G3, 256Mb RAM, radeon 7500, 32Mb VRAM), but only if i keep it in 16-bit colour, and take most of the detail options down to lowest. Is this normal for a machine of this speed? I'm maxing out my RAM to 640Mb soon - will this speed...

    Some changes for 10.3

Well, memory. And for it to be efficient and all that, it'd probably be better to be implemented at the WindowServer (or whatever runs just on top of Quartz) level. Otherwise someone'd have to log on before you could switch virtual GUIs, which seems clumsy to me. We're talking a *whole...

    Some changes for 10.3

omg yes! I'd never thought of it, but it would be awesome. I'm thinking *graphical* virtual terminals (à la {uni | linu}x). So something like [ctrl]+[option]+[f[1-7]] would swap between different graphical screens. With (definitely) a little reminder virtual desktop-style thinger on screen...

    Installing Diablo II...without OS 9

Alrighty then. Thankfully, a friend of mine had recently gotten an iBook, so i'll copy the installed folder off him. Strange, cos the copy-the-folder-off-the-CD thing worked for WC3... Happen to know if there's a Prefs file it installs as well? Cheers! dan

    Installing Diablo II...without OS 9

Here goes: I'm running OS 10.2.4. I don't have OS 9 (or, more accurately, don't want to install it, because it's on the Software Install cds, and it installs a whole load of other cr4p along with the bits you might want). I would very much like to play Diablo II, but it doesne have an...

    Extending OS X's 'Locations'

well, as i said, running a script would be great. I can't think of any decent alternative methods, and scripting covers just about everything.
