    Website Creation Tools

GoLive 9 is such a disaster. It keeps re-writing stuff that you've hand coded if you even dare to switch to design view to make a simple tweak. I tried to use Dreamweaver CS3 for a while, that's such a disaster too, file management is rubbish. So I've switched to a new editor and it's much...

    Leopard (10.5) Finder not responding

Update is, Upgrade works on a clean Tiger machine. e.g. 5 week old Mac Book Pro. Doesn't work on a 2 year old Tiger machine. I tried hard messing with moving prefs and Application Services etc from the upgraded user. But nothing worked. Must be an invisible file or something. I even emptied...

    Leopard (10.5) Finder not responding

... clean install is best. Especially with a well used Tiger machine. I've got a new user working, so I know the Finder isn't broken. Loads of apps are working with my settings, ones I can get to without using Finder anyway. I'm going to use Target Disk mode to fix it in the morning...

    Leopard (10.5) Finder not responding

If you can get system preferences open from the dock, make a new user. Log in as that. If it works then it's a preferences problem on your main user. You can use another computer to log into your files and move loads of com.apple.xxxxx pref files to another folder. Then restart. You...

    PHP and Cocoa?

Thanks michaelsanford and kainjow. I'm going to check out NSTask as soon as I've finished my final exams next week. We were bombarded with Windows C++ in Borland C++ Builder - it's definitely a good IDE and all. But coming from that to Cocoa takes a bit of getting used to. Programming...

    PHP and Cocoa?

PHP can't be run from within Cocoa. It'd have to be a URL request and data sent back. But I'd hope it would be possible to interface with MySQL. Java Applets can do it. How do you run UNIX commands from Cocoa?? Since MySQL is UNIX command line anyway it should be possible for Cocoa...

    PHP and Cocoa?

Is it possible to get cocoa to hit a website holding a php script and feedback the results? Or better still is it possible to get Cocoa to interface with MySQL local and/or remote?? I would love to do MySQL with Cocoa, but I'm new to Cocoa and have no idea what to look for. I can use Cocoa...

Final Cut Pro 4, DVD Studio Pro 2 and Shake 3

I've got to agree with that. FCP 4 is excellent value. And DVDSP looks 1000x better than version 1.5. Templates rule when it comes to DVD making. I'd guess that DVD Studio Pro could be as useful as Macromedia Director as a presentation medium since you can give DVD-Rs to almost anybody with a...

Final Cut Pro 4, DVD Studio Pro 2 and Shake 3

Wow, I love the Blue / Grey interface on DVD Studio Pro 2... Is that what 10.3 will have? I hope so. What does strike me though is that all 4 applications have different interfaces. Looks like it'll have Adobe Encore running for its ass before Adobe get it on the shelf! And Apple is cheaper...

Opinions needed: Cubase, Logic, or Protools

Go with Logic 5 Platinum (soon to be v6). We used Cubase SX since it came out for Mac OS X and it is full of bugs (MIDI stopping, Score Editing Crashing, lots of other crashes too). We were forced to buy Logic to get work done... and it hasn't crashed once and the exact same MIDI equipment and...

    Freezing while going to sleep...

You must RESET your motherboard. That seems to have solved all my sleep issues with my week-and-a-bit old 1GHz SD TiBook. It wasn't waking from sleep fully on a very regular basis - perhaps 3/5 sleep attempts wouldn't wake proberly - full restart required. I've tried all normal things, new...

    Switching from Entourage to Mail

Also... It's dead easy to MOVE your email from one Mac to another. In your user/library folder you'll find a Mail folder. Copy that. And in user/library/preferences folder you can find: com.apple.mail.plist Copy those 2 things to another Mac and put them in their respective places...

    Switching from Entourage to Mail

Apple Mail can Bounce any email to sender. Good for making it look like your address is dead - so spam will go away.... I've been using Mail for a while now. The junk mail filter is very good, odd few proper emails get caught. I leave it in learning mode then all Spam is marked Brown...

    Switching from Entourage to Mail

    1. In Entourage open up the Address Book. 2. Make a new folder on the Desktop - open it. 3. Drag the Addresses from Entourage in one big lump to the open folder. 4. Wait - it hangs. 5. All addresses and details appear as .vcards for you. 6. Now open Apple Address Book 7. Drag the Vcards...

    mail doesn't remember passwords!!

Same here.... Jag install on G4 500 Dual. Archive and Install (keep Home etc). Seemed to be fine. But MS Entourage (email) kept asking for passwords. Then .Mac preference pane would forget the passwords too. And clicking any Authenticating locks in Preferences wasn’t working. It worked a few...

    Got Jag?

Does this in 10.1.X too. It's because dropdown menus are supposd to display down the screen from where the cursor was right-clicked. By the Dock and just above doesn't have enough room below so the menu appears above but it's options are below the Menu Down arrow which makes them below the mouse...

    What crashes your X?

Waking from Sleep can sometimes just not happen on my Dual G4 500. Force restart is the only way out. Haven't been able to isolate why it happens. It doesn't happen very often. And apart from that nothing can crash it. OS X is just the best for doing a million things at once!
