    Applications quit unexpectedly on launch

That's cured the Photoshop problem. The Canon scanning app still quits but I'll do some more troubleshooting when I can get to the scanner and ensure it's connected. Thanks!

    Applications quit unexpectedly on launch

Two applications – Photoshop Elements 3 and Canon MP Navigator 3.0 (which came with my Canon MP600 printer/scanner) both quit on launch. No other applications appear affected. Elements gets most way through its start-up but quits on 'Building TWAIN Menu Items...'. MP Navigator quits...

Networked Macs don't appear in Finder

Thanks but problem seems to have resolved itself now. No idea why but everything's back to normal.

Networked Macs don't appear in Finder

I have two Macs running 10.4.8 on a wireless network. Clicking the Network icon on my G4 Powerbook shows the G5 iMac, but on the iMac, the Powerbook does not appear. I can connect from iMac to Powerbook using the 'Connect to Server' command and inputting the IP address, but as the IP is dynamic...

Moving Outlook Mail to Mac Mail

Anybody got a foolproof and easy way to move mailboxes, folders and attachments from Outlook 2003 to Mac Mail? Seems that MOVE2MAC does not handle mail and has some pretty bad reviews. O2M from thelittlemachine.com looks promising but hard to get any reliable testimonials. Shared experiences...

Mounting a CF Card in Finder, not iPhoto

OK – seem to have cracked this but do not understand why. Default volume name of the CF card was 'NO NAME". Changed the volume name when mounted in the Powerbook Finder to "CF Card #1" , changed the iMac System Preferences for CD/DVD back to "Launch iPhoto when a Picture CD is inserted" then...

Mounting a CF Card in Finder, not iPhoto

Still mounts in iPhoto, not in Finder, but Image Capture sees the card as a "Mass Storage Device", info window shows: Device Module /System/Library/Image Capture/Devices/MassStorage.app Device Type camera Product ID 25449 Vendor ID 1423 IORegPath...

Mounting a CF Card in Finder, not iPhoto

So it gets wierd here. First time after changing the CDs and DVDs setting in System Preferences, the card mounts in Finder. Subsequent times, with System Prefs unchanged, straight back to iPhoto with no mount in Finder. WTF???

Mounting a CF Card in Finder, not iPhoto

er....OK, that kinda works, but the card mounts in both, even if it has no picture files on it. So how does OS X decide that it's a 'picture CD'?

Mounting a CF Card in Finder, not iPhoto

Hey, thanks.... will try when I get back to the desktop. So OS X can tell the difference between a USB pendrive and a CF/SD card, but not between a card and a CD? Jeez! Get on it Steve!

Mounting a CF Card in Finder, not iPhoto

Whenever I connect a USB card reader with Compact Flash card to my iMac, the card automatically mounts in iPhoto, not in Finder. This is a pain because iPhoto does not allow selective imports of pictures, and this also prevents me from using the card as a regular external HDD. On my...

    One folder - two computers

If 80-100 GB is enough space for your data, buy yourself a 2.5" (laptop size) Hard Disk in an external enclosure. It's small enough to slip in a pocket or briefcase and carry between home and office.

    Sharing Mail across two Macs

Cam: seems like the Account Directory defaults to your local user even when setting up a new account; there's no option to enter a different location. So what's the point? albloom: your arrangement is OK for reading mail, but mail you've sent will only be visible on the Mac it was sent from...

    Sharing Mail across two Macs

Thanks for the feedback. However, I don't think that what I'm trying to do should be that difficult or dangerous, since I don't want to access the same POP account simultaneously from the two Macs, only for Mac 'A' to be the master holding the mailbox files and for Mac 'B' to run Mail.app but to...

    Sharing Mail across two Macs

I want to access the same mailboxes from two different Macs so when I'm home I can still work on my iMac with the mail I received and sent on my Powerbook in the office or elsewhere, and vice versa. So I need to use the local Mail directory on the Powerbook as the master, and to connect to it...

Image Capture Can't See My Scanner

My Canoscan LIDE 80 is not recognised by Image Capture either as directly as an 'image capture device' nor as a TWAIN device. The scanner works fine with its own software and other apps such as Word 2004 can acquire from it. Any ideas? [PBook 1.67GHz, 1.5GB RAM, OSX 10.4.2]

    Importing Edited Jpgs Into Iphoto5

If I edit a jpg that is in the iPhoto library with another application (Photoshop Elements) then save as jpg under another name (but still in the original location), then dragging that file to the 'Library' of iPhoto to re-import produces the "Unreadable files" error message: "The following...

    Entourage

I'll agree with MisterMe – Entourage is a pain to use and a one-way street to proprietary file formats and address book formats. Microsoft can't even be bothered to implement all the features of Windows Outlook – for example, you cannot insert a hyperlink into an email – how crazy is that...
