    Overclocking my Powermac G4 (AGP)

I would have to disagree with the above posters. It is very easy to cut the trace going to the R13 resistor on the 400MHz processor card, all you need is a scalpel, a magnifying glass, a steady hand, and 15 minutes spare. If it isn't stable you can repair the trace with a conductive pen, and if...

    Mystery task hogging CPU time

testuser, I killed it and it turned out to be the number crunching end of Folding@home - the protien folding distributed computing project. I had this launching on startup and running in the background, but now I think I'll only run it when I'm not working. Thanks jamall

    Mystery task hogging CPU time

I've recently noticed a slowdown in performance of my G4. I also noticed the appearance of the Core_65.ex entry in the top terminal app. Here is a screen dump: Processes: 38 total, 3 running, 35 sleeping... 117 threads 09:06:45 Load Avg: 1.38, 1.47, 1.52 CPU usage: 86.0%...

    no... i am not crazy

Unsupported Utility X does work with a hard drive version of the install CD, but the only way to make the hard drive functions correctly as the install CD is to use the Apple Software Restore method described by ksv. I've tried copying all the files across in the OS 9 Finder and renaming the...

    PB G3 Firewire DVD Playback

In OS 9.1 and 9.0.4 it was possible to plug a TV into the Powerbook with an S-Video cable and watch a DVD on the big screen. The new DVD player is really sweet, but now in either OS X or 9.2.1 the DVD player refuses to play on the TV, saying "Your hardware configuration is not supported" in X...

The same thing happens to my USB ZipCD, but remeber, Toast for OS X is just a preview release so it isn't going to be fully functional yet

Installing Mac OS X on 7500/G3 problems

It could be your hard drives firmware that's causing problems. I had swapped out the original Apple HD that came with my 8600 and had similar problems to what you're describing. The installer would run OK, but on restart I would sometimes get the broken folder icon, but mostly the monitor...

Here's what you all have been waiting for....

Not bad. You might be able to save some cash by getting a smaller HD and buying one separately. Also you seem to be overdoing it on the audio side of things

Why I bought my first mac in 10 years and loved it

You think that's bad, I was still using a Mac Plus in 1994. As far as I was concerned though, there was no alternative. Nomatter which Mac you use, you still get that warm fuzzy feeling that no Windows machine can ever give you.

Bug with Internet Connect? or What?

Yep same here. If you're connecting for a second or third time, when you hit connect the mouse starts skipping around the screen - sometimes it lasts a second or two, sometimes that's it and that damn spinning beach ball of death....
