    Optimize your Mac OS X!

    You're right using the cache does speed up applications, but clearing it and recreating it can also help.

    Lacie HD/Emac Issues (and more)

    Try resetting the PRAM by restarting the computer (and while the screen is still black) hold down Command+Option+Shift+P+R you will hear it restart again (and let go of the keys).

    10.4.3 startup time

    Download OnyX, run all the maintainance scripts, and clear system cache. The first time you restart after the clearing of cache, it will be a bit slow, because it has to recreate the cache, but after that the speed should improve. OnyX can be found here: http://www.titanium.free.fr/

    10.4, a wise upgrade?

    I agree, I thought the new features in tiger would be amazing, but they're not really. I would stick with Panther, until 10.5 (i forgot what the codename for it was) comes out! Tiger is quite buggy, and since i've upgraded from 10.4.2 to 10.4.3, i've switched browsers from Safari to Firefox...

    New to macs OS question

    I still think it's worth the extra amount. Panther has more support then Jaguar does, if someone came to me for help and they still had Jaguar, and a slow computer, I'd recommend them to upgrade to Panther. Lets say you get Jaguar, you don't like it kuz you can't get the support you need...

    New to macs OS question

    I wouldn't recommend a Jaguar installation. Even on slow computers, Panther runs better then Jaguar does. Once you pass the G3 700Mhz area with more then 512MB RAM, then Tiger should be your choice.

    Mails Lost On X Mail Client

    I doubt there is a way. You could try using some recovery software... Though I don't think it'll be useful (you've been using the mac and it could have overwritten some of the files). Have you kept a backup of your data? If not, I suggest doing that from now on.

    New Web Host Needed

    Also, Don't get fooled by midPhas's "Unmetered Bandwidth". Read the fine print at the bottom. It says only "qualified members" recieve that feature. My thought is: while your website is small, and barely gets bandwidth usage, it's unmetered, but when it gets large, and starts using up too...

    New Web Host Needed

    It depends on what you want. If you're looking for a dedicated server provider or a colocation provider, I'd say www.forona.com is the place you want to do that at. If you're looking at getting a regular hosting account, ($7.77/mo), 5GB (storage), 300GB/mo (transfer), www.powweb.com would...

    php mail() function

    Hello, I've been trying to figure out how to enable/install the sendmail wrapper feature in Postfix. Bascially it lets postfix act as sendmail to send emails (so php thinks it's sending an email through sendmail, but it's really postfix doing it). This way the php mail() function uses...
