    Dear Apple

I think the Mac app store will not prevent or interfere with your ability to get software from where ever you want or can. Developers will still be able to have their own web sites and the major Mac software collection sites will still be around. It is just for iPhone and IPad users (but not mac...

    Bad Internet Connection?

There are routers with more "industrial strength" but I don't have any experience. Some people have replaced the antennae on their routers with ones that can extend the range or even focus the beam (you can search the internet for these to purchase, and youtube showing you how to make a focusing...

    Solver Issue

There are some excellent Excel forums where I have gotten help. One seems to specialize in mac http://www.officeformac.com/ProductForums/Excel/ and another I have used, and as long as the feature is the same in Mac and PC I think they can help http://www.mrexcel.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=10

    Bad Internet Connection?

Also I meant to say it can be your ISP. Comcast went "bad" around thanksgiving for me, with slow speeds. I used Speedtest.com to measure my speed over a week (regularly running the Java program). I varied from very good to not even getting the test to run at all, like I was disconnected. I was...

    Bad Internet Connection?

Sometimes a new (and interfering) device has landed on your wireless channel. One thing to try is to change your broadcast channels. The interfering device can be some new wireless router (like a neighbors) or cordless phones, microwaves. You can option-click your wireless beacon (in 10.6 Snow...

    Monopoly?

I will have to wait for the translation....

    Monopoly?

I have also watched the agribusiness a bit. There are some big players that could cause concern, though we still pay less for food here than in other countries. Things like pesticides can turn on them quickly if the public gets outraged. They probably hate the power the public has to change...

    Monopoly?

I have had some training (by my company as to avoid this behavior) on monopolies. Being a monopoly is not illegal in the US but anti-competitive behavior is illegal. So you can't try to become a monopoly by driving out competition or preventing them from starting. I followed the Microsoft...

    chronic AirPort connectivity problems

The red flag of course is the Transmit rate of 1 and a Signal and Noise ratio that are the same (a less negative number is better). One thing to try is change the channel being used, a conflicting router nearby (neighbor?) could be affecting you. This is a common first thing to try. There is a...

    Dear Apple

I have my dock on the right side and it is hidden until I move my mouse over. This really gives me plenty of space and only comes into play when I want something for my dock.

Mac from 1984 running Mac OS X Snow Leopard...

Other than the case, what components are still from 1984? The screen is not, the first color mac was the Macintosh Color Classic introduced in 1993. The USB cable is not. Presumably if it really is Snow Leopard and not hacked, it has to be an Intel processor.

    wireless network monitor?

I have used VisualRoute, http://www.visualroute.com/. This should give you some information about the latency and number of stops between your computer and your destination. But I don't have any experience with serious network analysis software, for example looking at the entire network load.

    Internet connection through Airport

You have to set up the iMac for "internet sharing". http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8156.html This is for OS 10.5 but all versions support this.

    Safari/Mail, periodically unresponsive.

When you go to the Network System Pref pane, does it list Airport (it should have this as a choice in the list along with Firewire and Ethernet). If it has Airport is it reporting this service as "not connected"? Is the Airport the top most service in the list (I think it is suppose to be the...

    STILL unable to use netgear

Any chance you upgraded to Snow Leopard about this same time? There are quite a few threads on the internet about the SN upgrade ending in intermittent wireless or very slow download speeds. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2142725...

Slow iMac Intel: Is RAM my solution? Take a look...

I just upgraded a similar machine (1.83 GHz). The memory is pretty easy to get at; you remove the battery and unscrew three small Phillips screws from the aluminum "L" bracket along the side of the battery opening. I had an issue with getting these screws undone even though I had a set of...

PLEASE HELP! Sound not working - MacBook Air

I found several threads on this topic: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1529839&start=15&tstart=0 From above it appears a flexible circuit cable as broken. iFixit has a replacement part (and probably instructions or video to fix). In addition I found things to try that don't...

    Snow Leapard Internet Connection Problems

I do think this is significant. You would need to be connected to your network to get out on the internet. It should have asked you for a Password or Key. When your buddy set you up did he give you the new password?

    Airport not finding networks

The obvious thing is that Airport is turned off, I assume you looked at this but just in case: System Preferences--> Network-->, or click on the menu bar where the wifi strength bars are located and select Turn Airport On. There are quite a bit on the internet about weak signal or dropping...
