you need to install X-code tools which should come on your installation cd 1. or it should be somewhere on the apple site. that will give you the basic gcc g++ compilers... if you need additional libraries you should look into fink and DarwinPorts.

yer my MBP very occaisionally does something weird when i close the lid to put it to sleep... i like putting my MBP to sleep, but when i have it at home and im trying to get some sleep, the white light at the front keeps pulsing from light to dark all the time, its annoying. Is it possible to...

umm fan noise is fairly non-existent.... although it does get pretty hot (see other thread)... what screen issues are you referring too?

but were you running anything that was actually needing to use the processors and memory.... i mean mine got quite hot, when i was running iMovie and importing video / audio streams from miniDV camcorder (via Firewire), it ended up being a 20GB file.... i was also running some fairly...

what features in a linux dist are you looking for..... if your looking at programming (C, C++, Java, etc) then you can do all of that already yourself.

fink does work... although, i would recommend downloading each of the C++ source libraries and comiling them for your own machine and yes darwin ports does work... ... see the thread glib libraries for more details. (I installed, glib, glibmm, atk gettext, pango, libxml, libc++, ummm heaps...

the intel ones i got from here that was a link from here i tried locate glib.h... nope. I recently found pkg-config from fink, so im slowly building up libraries...

ok I've found and downloaded a copy of ink for intel it took quite a while to compile everything. Now when i do /configure it runs that alright, but when i run make it doesn't know where to find glib.h do i have to update PATH or something?

i may have over-stated it when i say pwns, but yes i pulled the both HiFi amd Bose out to listen to the same song off the same ipod. And i thought the Bose had better base and was more distorition free...

ummm yer probably... I mean I havnt been doing any intensive stuff tonight on my MBP but it bloody hot. Like if i were to rest it on my legs then i would probably burn myself on the casing! Crazeee!

this thing get very hot when i have been using it for a while. Just between where the LCD meets the keyboard it gets almost too hot to touch. The underneath at the back is also quite hot... glad it not only me that is experiencing this. All in all the MBP is sweet.
