    Quicktime 6 problems!

yeah... but we've been told for months now that QT6 is finished. The only thing holding it back from release was that they were working out licensing issues for MPEG4. That gave me the impression that the product was further along than it is. I'm not using QT6 for anything mission critical...

    Quicktime 6 problems!

ok, so I just installed the QT6 public preview, and it killed the audio on my laptop. I have a Pismo 400 powerbook, with OSX 10.1.4. The Mute/Unmute/Volume buttons all work with the exception that I get no sound trough the built-in speakers or via the headphone port. I know the speakers work...

Final Cut Pro 3 on OSX Server

Does anyone know of a reason why FCP 3 won't install on OSX Server? I have OSX Server 10.1.4, and the installer hangs usually after I click all the EULA's. Sometimes the installer icon just bounces about a hundred times and then I get an app quit error. The FCP3 Sys Req pages don't...

    WebObjects without a net connection

I have only just recently started learning WebObjects. Overall I am more than impressed with what it can do. Yet, I seem to have run into a problem that confuses me. I have a Pismo Powerbook 400 that I use for WebObjecs development. I have all the latest OSX and WO updates. My dev environment...

When Apple Tech Support doesn't support...

well, it took a month of grief and lengthy long distance calls, but Apple Tech Support has finally waived the costly repair fee. My friends, as well as myself, are relieved and overjoyed. While I am not pleased with how Apple handled this, I am pleased with the result. Way to go Apple. For...

When Apple Tech Support doesn't support...

well said Leesa. Admin: the laptop in question was never tampered with or opened. The warranty was never voided (although as leesa mentions Apple has free will to define 'abuse' as they see fit). My friends have used a stern and persistent voice as far up the Apple Tech Support chain of...

When Apple Tech Support doesn't support...

My friends mother bought a new iBook on my recommendation. After less than two months of her rarely using it the middle third of the LCD screen went dead. They sent it in for repairs, but the technicians said that the screen broke because they 'touched' it and would not replace it unless they...

    10.1.2 Released

did anyone else notice that the docs for apache /Library/Documentation/Services/apache/ changed in a bad way. (now, I can't say for sure that it wasn't broken before, cause I'm not sure, just that it is broken now) it seems that many of the html pages have been named with a duplicate '.html', as...

    10.1.2 Released

I have a pismo pb with only a 10GB hard drive. The OSX partition is at 2GB, and I keep most data and apps on another partition, but it still leaves me at any time with only about 250MB of free space. Every system upgrade requires at least 300MB of free space and for the life of me I can't figure...

    iTunes 2.0.3!!

First of all why should I have to reboot for an iTunes update? Secondly I've noticed other things that are odd. I went to rename a file and changed the filename extension and it asked me if I was sure I wanted to do that. Before the update it never asked me that before I installed itunes. I...

    SMB over commandline

yes it is recognized in the finder. Create a folder (say /smb/share). then mount_smbfs and point the node to /smb/share . Then in the Finder the folder /smb/share will turn from a folder into an alias with the remote drive icon. That folder or mount point is now the remote server. To unmount it...

    SMB over commandline

From the command line use the comman 'mount_smbfs'. Type 'man mount_smbfs' to read about it, but the basic syntax is 'mount_smbfs //username@server/share /localdir/somefolder' You can even fstab it if you want it to load on startup.
