    manual ipsec config

You might want to take a look at VaporSec. It's a simple GUI for configuring ipsec. EDIT: Sorry, wrong URL.

What is the best way to optimize for fast floating point operations?

The flaw in your statement is that it isn't a library! Those altivec language extensions look like C functions but they're not. They translate into single PPC instructions. The G3 will be going merrily along the sequence of instructions until it suddenly hits an altivec instruction and craps...

    What Languages Do YOU Know?

I love the person claiming C is dead. That is one of the funniest things I've seen all day. You do realise that most of Mac OS X is writen in straight C, don't you? OS 9 was the same. In fact any Unix program worth anything is usually written in C. Hell, a lot of those other languages (python...

OS X.2 What do YOU want??

    - Decent speech recognition bundled. - Mounting FTP servers in the finder ala Windows (yes, I feel dirty :-)

Power Macs will be released anyday along with the infamous Gigawire!

The gap, while it exists, is way too small to buy a tower at about *double* the price of the iMacs. It is very obvious that they're about to be replaced and no one in their right mind would buy a tower now unless their life depended on it (hey, it *could* happen). I reckon MWTokyo but...

    Hervé Hinnekens Design Of MacOSX

Herve, it's very pretty. I think you should submit it to Apple's feedback page! No, really. See what they say! This could get interesting.

    Apple stays selling cubes

Hmmm... Better shield that hard disk. Hell, don't even go *near* it if you have a metal plate in your head!

    Why not more MP systems?

Trying to use several processors to emulate a PC is actually very hard. Emulating a CPU is very non-parallel, it has to decode each instruction in sequence. You'd get speed boosts by running the CPU in one thread and the graphics etc in another. On a two processor system, you'd end up having the...

    Software Routing Problem

Sorry dude, I did it manually (I'm a Unix geek ;-) so I don't have any experience with BrickHouse etc. Re-installing 10.1 won't help. There isn't a file that has the default firewall setings, BrickHouse must create one. Reinstalling won't delete that file (probably in /Library/StartupItems/...

Secrets of the Mac OS X 10.1 Update CD

When you say that there are x86 executables on the CD, do you mean GUI or command line? If the answer is command line, don't get too excited. They're there because Darwin runs on PCs. If you get the Darwin installer from apple, you'll find that ALL the CLI programs are fat binaries (PPC/x86)...

    10.1 New and Hidden Features

I'm curious why people are using POP. Why not IMAP? mail.mac.com is an IMAP server as well as a POP server. It allows you to leave mail on the server, create new mailboxes on the server and is generally newer and better than POP. Anywho, I use it, it works. peter

Hidden pair of scissors in the dock!

Ha ha, go Apple! I like the new trash/burn/eject/scissors. Any others? Oh yeah, GAH!

    Internet Connect

I don't know about 10.1 (still waiting for my copy) but in 10.0 it's: System Preferences - Network - Configure: port name - Modem - Wait for dial tone before dialling. Hope this helps.

    10.0 on a 7600

Just thought I'd tell y'all about my latest waste of time. Using UnsupportedUtilityX, I got MacOSX 10.0 installed on a 7600 with a 1.2GB hard disk and 48MB of RAM. Minimum 128MB my ass! Still, you haven't seen thrashing until you launch IE on a machine with only 10MB of RAM free! Anyway, it's...
