    Delayed recharging: DC board failure?

The other day, for no cause that I can recognize, my powerbook started behaving strangely with respect to battery charging. When I plug in the AC adapter, the computer immediately registers that it's running on AC power, but the battery doesn't start charging until 10-15 seconds later. If I plug...

    Recharging problem

So it's on the DC in board? Ack.. I hope it's just the battery. That thing looks like kind of a pain to replace in the 12 inch powerbook.

    Recharging problem

So by the PMU you actually mean the chip on the logic board? As in, to fix this problem the logic board must be replaced?

    Recharging problem

I ran the hardware test CD and everything came out fine .. not sure if that means anything in this context. Seeing as the PMU is just a chip, it doesn't seem like it would have this type of failure.. seems like it would either work or not. Was the PMU suggestion just a guess or have you seen...

    Recharging problem

My 12 inch powerbook (1.5 GHz G4) is having some recharging troubles. It was in sleep mode for a couple days (although it's done that before and had no problems) and now it's doing the following things: - When plugging in the power adapter, it immediately registers that it's under AC power...

    Delay in fetching web pages

Going by Safari's activity viewer as well as further probing with Ethereal it's definitely a DNS problem. On one network I'm not getting any DNS responses at all, and now on a different wireless network I'm getting DNS failure packets and eventually Safari comes back with a "page not found"...

    Delay in fetching web pages

I deleted AcidSearch just to be on the safe side. I don't believe it's a problem with a banner ad, as gmail.google.com does not display any, and even if it did they would certainly be from google itself and probably not delay the page load. I also do not believe it's a caching problem --...

    Delay in fetching web pages

Fairly frequently (but not every time) when I try to visit a web site, my browser starts contacting the server and fetching the page, but hangs for a while instead of bringing the page up. If I stop and reload, the page comes up quickly. The browser itself doesn't hang, the UI still responds...

    No more mac help

When I open Mac Help, I get a blank help window. If I either press the Home button in the toolbar, or invoke MacHelp.Help directly from where it resides in /Library/Documentation I get the initial screen, but none of the links work and searching for a topic doesn't work either. All the help...

Disable automatic xterm on X11 startup

Actually, I figured out how. You should copy the file xinitrc from /etc/X11/xinit to your home directory and rename it .xinitrc Then edit the file and put a # in front of the line that reads xterm & This will prevent X11 from running xterm when it starts up, as the xinitrc script is...

Disable automatic xterm on X11 startup

Every time I start up X11.app, or it gets started by way of launching an X11 program, an xterm window comes up. Is there any way to disable this?

    Powerbook G4 temperature

I have a 1.5 Ghz aluminum PB G4 12" which I use for general web stuff, schoolwork, and programming. Recently I've been working on a realtime graphics app for a large school project. When the app runs it takes the CPU to full usage and thus raises the temperature of the machine quite a bit. After...

    Full path to running program

In my understanding, that will only print the path to the command with that name that is first found when searching the $PATH, not necessarily the actual executable that's running (if, for example, there are two programs with the same name in different directories on the system). I came up...

    Full path to running program

Is there any way (either a OSX utility or a BSD command) to find out the full path to the program running in a given process? Using ps -A I can get the full path to most, but not all running programs. I want a way to associate any pid with a specific executable file and I can't seem to find one.

    configd cpu usage

Disclaimer: I am the paranoid type when it comes to keeping things running smoothly. A few days ago while looking at the activity monitor, I noticed that the configd cpu usage would spike up a percentage point or two every few seconds, hovering at zero the rest of the time. I don't believe it...
