    Sharing Mail across two Macs

Your best solution to this is an IMAP rather than POP account. IMAP was created specifically to solve your situation. With an IMAP account the mail is all retained on the server and accessed through the email client on the local machine. That way you can access the same mail from any number of...

OSX newsreader that filters read messages?

I just did a quick search for "newsreader" on VersionTracker and pulled up 18 possibilities. Surely you can find one among them that fits your needs.

Mail: how to quickly block spam?

On my computer that list would have thousands or even tens of thousands of entries and that could easily result in blocking email I want. Many spam messages and most viruses spoof legitimate email addresses so I might wind up blocking my mother-in-laws email messages if her PC gets infected...

There\'s a white box on my screen and it will not go away.

The last time I ran into that, it was an application that was starting up in the classic environment during boot time and crashing it could close down normally. Be sure you don't have a classic application starting at boot time. If you are not using the classic environment or that does not...

    PROBLEMS WITH FIREWIRE AND EMACS

If you mean the firewire port is not recognized in System Profiler that is most likely a hardware problem cured by a new logic board. If you have AppleCare on your eMac it would be covered. The problem would be convincing Apple it is intermittent if it decides to work when you take it to the...

Disk image failed to mount: Device not configured

Apple's Knowledge Base is back on line and you were correct the article you found does not apply. Is your problem with just the one .dmg file or is it with all .dmg files?

    Can`t Boot From CD

The "forbidden" symbol indicates the copy of the OS that is on the CD is not bootable on your computer. It may be any one of the reasons already discussed in this thread or it may be a damaged disc.

    Can`t Boot From CD

Those are discs that shipped with another Mac and are unlikely to work. The retail Tiger DVD is jet black with a light silver grey X. You need the retail DVD.

    Can`t Boot From CD

Try booting with the install disk in the drive and holding down the Option key instead of the C key. I have recently become aware that with some Apple DVDs/CDs that will work when the C key will not.

    Programs/info being deleted-help!

Personally I always do a thorough erase of the hard drive on any previously used machine with at least the write zeros option if not the more thorough seven way write option. That way I am not inadvertently "inheriting" any problems from the previous user. Of course this presupposes you got...

    E-mail Issues

Before trashing the inbox a solution that worked for me in a similar situation was to click on a message just before the offending message and shift click on a message just after it and then hit Delete. That way Mail makes no attempt to open the message, it just gets zapped out of the inbox.

Disk image failed to mount: Device not configured

The Apple support site is offline at the moment so I can't look at the article you referenced, but often a solution for one version of OS X works for subsequent versions. I would go ahead and give the suggested solution a try even though it does not specifically refer to OS X 10.4.x

[FAQ]Can I install Tiger on my Mac from another Mac's DVD/CDs?

The family pack license explicitly excludes its use in that kind of environment. Besides that it is cheaper to get a multi-seat license directly from Apple. They sell them all the time for schools, corporations, etc.

    G5 dual processor, 20.0 Gig

You mentioned speeding things up, bumping your RAM up to a full GigaByte or better yet with a dual processor G5 2 GB will make a substantial improvement. OS X likes RAM, lots of RAM.

Can I connect an old PC laser printer to my G5 Imac?

The CUPS printing system has been built into OS X along with Ghostprint and GIMP-Print since OS X 10.3. So unless you are running 10.1 or 10.2 those are already on your system. GIMP-Print is now called GutenPrint and the only reason for downloading and installing GutenPrint is to get later...

    searching for free paint software

The closest thing to a true paint program that is free is the Paint module in Appleworks that is bundled with all Macs as far as I know. Graphic Converter is a great tool but it is not a paint program. If you have deleted AppleWorks and still have the Software Restore CDs/DVD that came with your...

    ibook crashing after many reformats/installs

Sounds more like a logic board problem to me. :( If you run Disk Utility from the OS X 10.4 install DVD and the S.M.A.R.T. value is "verified" and DU does not detect any errors it is unlikely your problems are drive related. If you still have the hardware test CD/DVD that came with your iBook...

    DVD no picture

When you say "My menu worked" I am assuming you mean the menu on the DVD disc itself and not the DVD player menu. So it is just the actual image from the movie that you not seeing? I have not run across this before but you asked for thoughts so here goes: Be sure you have at least 15% to 20%...
