powerbook hard drive: what to buy?

I installed a new 80GIG Toshiba drive in my Powerbook 12"/1.33GHz, exactly as specified in the ifixit manual. I turned the Powerbook on and it boots using recovery disks, but nothing appears in the Select a Destination volume section of the installer. The new drive is nowhere to be found...

powerbook hard drive: what to buy?

I searched the forums for this problem and I am VERY glad to find such an informative post. The HD on my PB12/1.33GHz is failing. I just ordered a replacement HD from one of the links provided, and I printed a fixit guide with instructions for replacing a HD on a PB12. Wish me luck!

I deleted the iPhoto index file and it works now! Thanks! :)

    iPhoto inoperable after import

I have a Powerbook 12 (10.3.4) with iPhoto 05. I wanted to copy some pictures to my father-in-laws eMac (10.3.4) running iPhoto 04 (or whatever the previous version of iPhoto). Using my Powerbook with iPhoto 05, I used the export feature to save a bunch of pictures to a CD. I took the CD to my...

    iPhoto inoperable after import

My older version of iPhoto (eMac 10.3.4) was disabled after importing some pictures originally edited in iPhoto '05. How can I resume working in iPhoto again?

    Future of eMac? Impending demise?

Well, guess what? I just heard that they are in fact updating the eMac: http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=949 It figures. Yesterday I made the leap and ordered a refurbished eMac. Got a decent deal, $650 for the 1.25GHz/Combo drive model, so I can't complain. But its already...

    Future of eMac? Impending demise?

I didn't consider that! Maybe the next time Apple upgrades the iMac, they'll lower the price of the current 1.6 iMac to $999 or less. That would be a smooth way to phase out the eMac. So, then, when is the iMac due for an update? Another few months?

    Future of eMac? Impending demise?

Will the eMac die soon? I have a gut feeling that its doom will be announced any day now...but thats only a feeling. I say this because I want to buy a computer for my toddlers, and the eMac appears to be built like a tank. I like that! Both the mac mini and iMac seem to be much more...

    Powerbook G5?

I thought Jobs said that the G4 will be around for a really long time in Powerbooks, because of the serious technical hurdles of putting a G5 in a laptop.

Shouldn't apple make another laptop line?

Another laptop line? Well--what about portable computers? Remember the old Compaq suitcase portable from the 80s? It was bigger than today's eMac and iMac, which are not laptops, but still fall under the "luggable" category. I think that all of Apple's consumer lines of computers are already...

DVD Authoring without DVD Studio Pro

I've done some research on this--you can't use iDVD on anything except an internal Superdrive. There was a hack at one point for a certain type of external DVD burner, however, once Apple learned of it, they put a stop to it. Not sure if its corporate laziness/efficiency (ship all computers with...

    I cant login... HELP

Use a good password. You may have a rock-solid 128 bit encryption program but if you use a short silly password (like the name of your dog) for your key, and someone takes physical possession of your computer with the key on it, then all they have to do is crack that simple password to get to...

    Jobs Had Surgery

Right...Like those of us in IT (who are paid to work on a computer) have the option of limiting our time in front of it. Incidentally, my lower half is protected from radiation by the wooden table and wrinkle-resistant khakis. Safe!

NEW: possible new imac confirmation on...

The ribbon idea is more plausible than the pizza box mockup posted above. I mean, come on, isn't the whole point of Apple's design philosophy to get away from set-top/pizza box designs? That mockup looks like a Sony product. Yuck.

iDVD and External Drives--Whats the deal?

What's the deal with that? They included iDVD on my non-superdrive Powerbook for a reason, right? I am trying very hard to make the iLife suite work for me (as advertised), without buying additional software for my Mac. What is the technical and business justification for dedicating iDVD...

    Recommendations for a future purchase

So, you'll save $500 with the G4. Think of all the things you can do with that money, like buy a better monitor, buy an X-Box (better for games than a G5 anyway), go on vacation, etc., etc.

iDVD and External Drives--Whats the deal?

Can I use iDVD with an external DVD burner? My research so far indicates the following: -No, you can't -At one point, someone found a workaround to make iDVD work with a certain external drive -Apple learned of this workaround and put a stop to it ::evil:: What's the deal with iDVD...

    sound system

I almost got the Bose computer speakers for $100--nice but NO bass--but decided to splurge and do it right. I seriously considered the $250 Bose and the $180 Klipsch set, but ended up buying the Soundsticks. They are excellent. Their blend of performance and aesthetics makes them easily worth...

What games could my iBook handle running?

I have a new 12" Powerbook (768MB, 1.33Ghz) and Halo runs like crap. I finally gave up on it because the framerate is so bad. Part of the problems occurred when I "upgraded" Halo to v1.05 and MacOS to 10.3.4. These "upgrades" reduced performance of Halo to unplayable levels. I'm playing...

    HALO has invaded my life.

:( Halo runs horribly on my BRAND NEW 12" Powerbook. I have 768MEG of RAM, a 1.33GHz processor, and a 64MEG NVIDIA card, and, well, Halo runs like cr@p. Framerates are too low to play. Halo worked okay when I first bought the Powerbook, but then--like an idiot--I upgraded Halo to version...
