10.2.8 - second time around. Do you trust it?

I can't trust it. The first version seemed to work fine, save a few minor issues. This 'new and improved update' has fubared my machine. I get the 'grey screen of death' and it seems to be caused by the Power Managerment code. Grrr! Apple get your act together!!!

    PHP/Apache on 10.2.4

Did you 'un-comment' the php specific directives? This was not done in the 'new' config file put in place by the update. You will also have to add index.php to the DirectoryIndex directive so that apache looks for index.php.

    PHP/Apache on 10.2.4

this may belong on another thread, but i have found it beneficial to do a: sudo update_prebinding -root / -force and then reboot after updates like this one. it should probably be something done during 'Optimization', but it seems to get skipped.

    PHP/Apache on 10.2.4

looking at the differences between the new httpd.conf that apple put in place with the 10.2.4 update and my old config, i only notice one major difference (aside from my old settings) and that was the addition of some mod_rendezvous_apple directives. i wonder what mod_rendezvous_apple is for?

    PHP/Apache on 10.2.4

i noticed that the update to 10.2.4 saved my old /etc/httpd/httpd.conf as: /etc/httpd/http.conf.applesaved Reverting the 'new' apache config back to my old apache config with: cp httpd.conf.applesaved httpd.conf then restarting apache did the trick. it makes no sense to me why apple did...

    PB Critics tear Apple apart

This clown probably needs to but a make. He seems, like many out there, to be a staunch skeptic. Probably voted for Dubya. He's probably bitter becasue he really had nothing to complain about. The 'similarly config's Viao' weight about 3000 pounds and only have a 16" screen and it is not...

    test my PHP from browser

...and it just takes a little tweaking to the apache config to get it working. MySQL is not necessary ot get phpinfo(); to render. Follow the instructions on this page from Apple: http://developer.apple.com/internet/macosx/php.html Also, you don't need all the opening and closing html...

    Making the Switch

I would suggest sticking with the HFS+ filesystem. If you go UFS, you will (as i understand it) only be able to run the Cocoa apps and none of the Carbon apps. So far I have not seen any good argument on going with a UFS file system.

Finder has no permission to open enter password

something ownerships can only be change with 'sudo' from the command line or if you are logged in as root. i recommend NOT changing file ownerships at random, the results could be pretty disasterous.

Finder has no permission to open enter password

This is permissions issue. It seems you are not an administrator. Login is as a user with admin privileges and you should be able to do this.

    Can't connect to local MySQL

    1. Is mysql running? 2. the other thing is: '/tmp/mysql.sock' doesn't seem to be where mysql puts the .sock file when it runs on os X. Go to mysql.com and do a search for 'my.cnf'. This is a config file that mysqld will read when starting and you can tell mysqld to use '/tmp/mysql.sock'

    scary os10.2 screen of death

I think this is a Kernal Panic. They did away with the ugly stack trace that would appear in latter versions of OS X. I have yet, to see this either (knock on wood).
