Snow Leopard + Mail + Gmail IMAP not working

So while logged into Gmail's web interface, I opened Mail.app. Mail.app predictably timed out, and upon returning to Safari, noticed that I'm now getting an "Oops… the system encountered a problem (#717) - Retrying now…" error, then clicking Sign Out changes it to a (#104) error...

Snow Leopard + Mail + Gmail IMAP not working

Interesting observation: It seems that after my connection times out that I can't even connect to gmail's web interface, which gives me a 503 temporary error for about 5 minutes after the timeout in Mail. So something about Mail is actually breaking my gmail account for a brief period it would...

Snow Leopard + Mail + Gmail IMAP not working

Actually, hibbers, i think you may be on to something. I disabled POP and made sure my settings were aligned with these recommendations. So far it seems happy. I'm more inclined think it was having POP enabled on the account than the Mailbox settings inMail, as I changed them last night to...

Snow Leopard + Mail + Gmail IMAP not working

Thanks, Satcomer. Unfortunately no, the OS hasn't enabled a port 993 block. I wish it were that simple. I am left to wonder what changed in Mail 4.0 on Snow Leopard that makes Gmail so unhappy.

Snow Leopard + Mail + Gmail IMAP not working

Thanks for the suggestion, but no dice. Same symptom, works for exactly 1 network operation, then times out again.

Snow Leopard + Mail + Gmail IMAP not working

SO Here I am with my brand new MBP running snow leopard, setting up my gmail in Mail.app, account settings identical to my iMac (still running 10.5), and it keeps throwing up a timeout error on port 993. It seems that re-entering the password in the account settings window makes it work for a...

Delete Users & Restore Setup Assistant in 10.5

Hi all, Selling a mac, and would like to do just what the title states, back to "factory settings" without removing updates & Apps. This used to be relatively simple in Tiger and earlier, but then they got rid of the netinfo database in Leopard. The private/var/db/.AppleSetupDone file is...

    How to Reinstall OS x

You can either search eBay for a disc that's specific to your Mac model, or buy a retail copy of OS X from Apple. Once you have a disc, there is no serial number or activation or anything, just hold down the C key after the boot chime to boot from the disc, then follow the prompts to install...

Firefox quits before i download safari

When you bought this PowerBook, did you get any discs? If so, you need to Erase & Install. You can't know what weird things people will do to their macs that convince them to finally sell it. If you didn't get any discs, I recommend you buy a retail disc from Apple. That said, here's things...

    Cannot import backed-up mail

Could be an ownership issue. Try copying it to your desktop from the DMG before trying to import. If necessary, change the owner by opening Terminal and typing the following: sudo chown -R yournewshortname ~/Desktop/Mail and hit return and enter your password. (Note: Be sure to replace...

cant install mac os x from usb or hard drive PLEASE HELP!!

from comac: Most Geniuses have USB & Firewire Hard Drives, not flash drives. Flash drives aren't reliable enough for repeated booting, and tend to read/write slower than a good External HDD anyway. And I say MOST because no 2 Genius departments are the same in my experience. I've known...

    Webcam for old iMac

Only half the iMac G4s had USB 2.0. If you have a 15" screen with a 1.0GHz G4 or better, OR a 17" screen with a 1.25GHz G4 or better, OR a 20" screen of any kind, then you have USB 2.0. If so, then take a look at Macam (link), a free plug-in that adds support for most USB webcams to Mac...
