    APP makes 10.3.3 crash!!

Why was the name of the app in question censored? Correct me if you wish, but there are lots of things you can download with BT that aren't pirated material. I understand being concerned with supporting piracy, but come on guys...

    Monitor all incoming connection types?

Well, the only thing I found that might work is HenWen, which is a Mac OS X GUI for Snort. The only problem is it is so complicated I don't know how to do what I want with it. Anybody have any experience?

    Monitor all incoming connection types?

I am curious to find if there are any tools out there that will provide visual notification when somebody tries to connect to my machine over any protocol. For example, I want to find out if somebody is trying to ssh into my machine, or trying to connect to timbuktu, or file sharing. I realize...

Problems with path and manpath regarding Fink and X11

Come on, anybody? Somebody must know what is going on?

    .bashrc versus .bash_profile

Good question. I really don't understand the difference either. I have my aliases and commands to turn on color in the terminal in .bashrc. The only problem was that my aliases didn't work. I had to put "source $HOME/.bashrc" into my .bash_profile. It seems that at startup, .bash_profile...

Problems with path and manpath regarding Fink and X11

So i've recently installed fink again on my 10.3 install, and I have been playing around with various cool tips for running X11, and have come across two different problems, both related. 1) If I evoke "echo $PATH" from Terminal.app, it lists the standard directories, but it does not list...

    Moving Applications in Panther...

Yes setting up an alias folder would make my life more simple. I am still curious if dynamic paths are supported. Anybody else know if this works?

    Moving Applications in Panther...

In OS 9, when you ran software update, or an installer, the installer would find the Apps location and update it. In earlier build of X, if you moved an app from its original location and tried to update it, the installer would only look in /Applications and install the update files there. So...

Case sensitive file system in Panther?

I remember seeing something about Apple adding case sensitivity to the file system in Panther, but it appears to be gone? I remember seeing the option listed when formatting a drive using Disk Utility on earlier builds, but I can't find in in the current 85 build. I tried creating two files...

Hanging Desktop and missing icons within OS X

If you can boot from another drive try moving the preferences folder out of home/library/. If you can't boot from another drive, I'd suggest safe mode and moving the directory, but since that is not working for you, it might not work.

    7B85 Not Reliable!

Well, there should be a file called Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist. If there is not, I would be supprised (I'm looking at it right now on my panther system). I may not have been clear, and you may be looking in the wrong library folder. If you can navigate the...

    7B85 Not Reliable!

I might have the solution... I believe your issue to be this: System boots to desktop, and you can see the background image, but nothing on the desktop, no menu bar, no dock, and some of the menu extras still appear in the upper right corner. If this is the case, I have seen this problem...

    FileVault question: backups?

FileVault takes your entire home directory and encrypts it into a sparse disk image. Individual files are not encrypted. You can double click the disk image belonging to some other user and mount it if you know the password.

    Panther speed

Just wanted to post a comment. I just installed panther 7B69 onto a 600mhz iBook, and with only 128mb of RAM, it acutally ran well! It was no speed demon, but it made actually using the system feel more like OS 9. No waiting for the machine to catch up to me! If this is any indication of...

    Brushed metal initiative

To bring us back to the original purpose of this thread, I completely agree that brushed metal has no purpose in the Finder. It is ugly, obtrusive, and breaks the consistency of OS X's UI. If Apple wants BM in some of it's apps, that's fine. I agree that it does work in apps that interface...

Can you create new Finder windows by clicking on Finder icon in Dock?

Oops, you're right, I got mixed up with "New Folder"! Still, can this be done?
