    force NIC into 100baseTX?

Yeah, my nic supports 10/100, and so does my router. All of the other computers on the network run at 100. ifconfig: lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 16384 inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128 inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1 inet 127.0.0.1 netmask...

    force NIC into 100baseTX?

Howdy. The pci network card in my beige g3 is only being recognized as 10baseT, and it's capable of 100baseTX. Does anyone know how to force the card to run at full speed? I've tried ifconfig en1 media 100baseTX but it replies with ifconfig: SIOCSIFMEDIA: Operation not supported. FYI, the nic is...

    backing up osx

I have retrospect, and I can run that if i like. I'm just not gonna boot into 9 everytime I want to backup (being every night). And using disk copy to backup a full 46 gig drive would require another empty 46 gig drive and that just won't do :) Justin

Apple has got to do something with the dock!

That wasn't my complaint. You can stop animations when an application is launching, but what I was talking about is when a background application has something to say, the icon starts bouncing up and down. I know of no way to disable this.

getting rid of some of the visual effects

Any ideas on how to do this? They're pretty nifty looking, but I'd rather have a more responsive system (G3/300). I want to get rid of: the fancy minimizes the bouncing icons in the dock (contrary to what i said above, these are NOT nifty... red blicking arrow, that's all i want) all the...

Apple has got to do something with the dock!

Now if we could only get rid of the retarded bouncing icons... they drive me crazy.... Maybe a slowly blinking red arrow beneath it, but no more!!

    forgot password for stuffit archive

I know no one's gonna believe me when I say this, but I had an important document that I didn't want anyone to read so I used stuffit dropstuff 6.5 to encryt and password protect it. Yes I forgot the password. Everyone knew all my normal passwords so I had thought up something creative...

logging out of aqua in terminal

Well, I looked at the Finder dictionary and there wasn't any reference to a logout command. I did see restart and shutdown, so I think I'm looking in the correct place. I'll have to check out calling scripts from commandline, that'd be cool anyways. I was thinking about putting it in a...

logging out of aqua in terminal

Yeah, hopefully it is. I haven't messed with Applescript much under OS X, I'll have to check it out. Does anyone know how to accomplish this with a cocoa or carbon app? I have just enough experience that I might be able to through that function in there :) Justin

logging out of aqua in terminal

Hi. Is there a way to log out a user via terminal and take them back to the OS X login screen? I'm writing a shell script to logout a user if he has been on for more than a certain amount of time, and to disable usage during certain hours. Thanks, Justin

limited the time a user can login per day

Cool, yeah I'm prob just gonna write a shell script to keep track of the time. I want to make sure it keeps track of multiple logins throughout the day, as well as not losing the data upon reboot (wtmp w/ linux gets cleared on reboot). Does anyone know what time keeps track of logins with OS X...

limited the time a user can login per day

Hi. Is there a program or a way to limit the amount of time a user can be logged in per day? For instance, I want Susan to only be able to be logged in for 4 hours a day. Even better, she can only be logged in between 6am and 11pm. Any thoughts? Thanks, justin
