    Movies on iTunes?

Looking downstream a couple of years might show us that software/hardware will have progressed to the point that HD movies will be downloaded, playable only on the machine/owner that was made the purchase, will be DVD recordable for playback on that machine only, and will significantly reduce...

    G5 2.7ghz - coolant leak - cooked computer

The Apple Store just advised me that my 15 month-old Dual 2.7 G5 has a coolant leak, which ruined the power supply, both CPUs, and likely the logic board. That'll be ~$2K, thank you very much. No warranty. Naturally, I'll just have to throw the machine away. Can't put that much more into it...

    Redlining fans on PowerMac G5

Well, here's the scoop on my G5 and its boot/power problem. I took the machine to the Apple Store. They tore into it and found a coolant leak. They'd never seen one before. Now they tell me I need a new power supply unit which they assume was damaged by the leak, a new pair of 2.7ghz CPUs...

    PowerMac G5 2.7 ghz won't start up

The machine started arbitrarily shutting down on its own. I first thought it was a house power glitch, or something, because the machine would restart normally. Now it won't restart at all. Pushing the start button illuminates the light above the switch until the button is released, then...

    Redlining fans on PowerMac G5

It's only one guy with the problem, until you spoke up. No resolution yet on the problem. I'll post a solution when I get it. Unfortunately, the G5 is out of warranty by 3 months, and I don't have AppleCare. If you're warranteed, I'd suggest getting it to Apple post-haste. Pish

    Redlining fans on PowerMac G5

Used the compressor and tried removing any dust. Noted what appeared to be residue in right-rear corner of machine, under the G5 processors...looked like it was the result of moisture causing dust to cake up, or maybe even electrolysis...no evidence of actual water. Machine started again...

    Redlining fans on PowerMac G5

No, but I did open it. What kind of dust contamination would cause a thing like this? Thanks

    Redlining fans on PowerMac G5

Black screen...no boot...no preferences. Nada. Can't even open the DVD tray to insert the OSX disk. I believe I may be hosed.

    Redlining fans on PowerMac G5

Yep. My G5 2.7 just started something similar. The fans would really wail, and the computer would sometimes do an uncommanded shutdown. Today it will not power up properly. The light on the power button will not stay lighted unless you hold it in, and yet when it's released the machine...

How to Network Printers for OS X and XP?

Well, that's not quite right...the print server is visible, but I can't get any of the printers to print. OS10.4.5, with an Epson R1800 and a Canon i960. Neither printer is in the LPD list, and the gimps don't seem to work. Is it possible to update the LPD printer list? Both printers...

    iTunes 5.0 and purchased music

Diablo, Fryke....thanks. I had assumed that the update could be done from the mounted disk that I downloaded from the iPod site. Apparently, those updates had been downloaded to the Utilities folder during a software update check. Launching from that location worked just fine, but I probably...

    iTunes 5.0 and purchased music

Running a dual G5, plenty of RAM, two 400 GB drives. One drive has iTunes 5.0 something, the other iTunes 4.0 something. After upgrading to iTunes 5.0, I get an error message when I plud my 20GB touch-wheel iPod into the system: "You will not be able to copy songs purchased from the iTunes...

    Bank Check creation software

Thanks, but QuickChecks seems to fill out existing checks, not create new ones. QuickBooks is too expense for the simple need I have, and Quicken, I'm told by Intuit, doesn't provide check creation capability. Am I missing something? Thanks again, Pish

    Bank Check creation software

Greetings all, Is anyone aware of Check Printing software that will allow me to create checks from scratch, and that runs on a Mac? There's plenty that runs on the PC, but I haven't been able to come up with a good app for the Mac. Thanks for the help, Pish

Please help - Ext Firewire Drive Won't Mount!

Maybe I should call them "jumper bridge pins"...they set master/slave priorities on EIDE drives. You don't need them and they will hose an external firewire setup.

    SCSI on 10.4

I'm running an Adaptec AVA 2906 on a dual 450 G4. It works just fine; no problem at all. The machine is also supporting 2 internal SATA 250 GB drives and two internal EIDE 250 GB drives and 3 other external 1394 drives. I didn't mess around with any files. It just runs like a champ. The...

    Samsung vs Apple?

I bought the 23" HP L2335 LCD monitor for ~$1000. It is superb, and according to the MacWorld review, superior, by far, to the other 23" LCD. All I can tell you is I have the 22" Cinema Display on my G4, and the HP on the G5 just dusts it. Pish

Firewire HD Enclosures; What/where to buy?

I agree with Bob...the Mercury cases are great. Make sure you take any jumpers off of the drive. I've got 4 internal drives in my old G4, and 3 firewire 400 drives in Mercury cases. They work like a charm. 1.4 TB. Does the PB G4 support 1394B? Pish

    Next G5 Powermac?

I'm not seeing any active rumor-mongering regarding possible G5 Powermac upgrades, and as I'm finally ready to jump on one, I'd kind of like to know how long I may have to wait for the next generation. I expect that the new machine will have faster CPU's, and probably a dual-layer...
