Thanks... I got into single user mode, ran fsck, did nothing, followed the instructions for making the disk no longer read only, ran fsck, it did something with some temporary files and pronounced me clean... still same problem on boot. Went back into single user mode, did the same thing, it...
Hi -
I'm having an issue. I think it happened because my ibook (first white one, 500mhz g3) ran out of juice while it was optimizing the hard drive from an update.
Now when I turn on the ibook, I get the normal startup.. the normal bar where things are loading... but as soon as that finishes...
I doubt the life decreased. I think the thing that measures it is wonky. It doesn't seem to go down as fast as it should.
And the panther was a clean install.
I think I turned mine off overnight once in 2002... other than that, it's been on the entire time since about a month after the white ibooks were released, save only brief moments for reboots and the like.
My battery life was decent in Jaguar. Then came the battery update, which made it much...
the *comparable* iRiver (iHP-120) is big. Even compared to the full-sized ipod. The 256 meg one you refer to is also bigger than the mini ipod, and perhaps even the other (I don't feel like converting mm to in), costs $200 for 1/16 the amount of storage the mini ipod offers. Yeah, though...
any that weigh less than 4 ounces?
[edit]
and according to the specs on their website, it's a 4 gig hard disk, *not* flash-based. So of course you don't get the extra battery life a flash one would offer
Technical Specifications
Capacity
4GB, 15GB, 20GB or 40GB hard disk drive(1)
Holds 1,000, 3,700, 5,000 or 10,000 songs in 128-Kbps AAC format(2)
Stores data via FireWire or USB 2.0(3) hard drive
So the mini *is* a hard drive, not flash-based.
anyone have a screen capture showing the thing?
stupid firewall blocks video. : (
oh no... "maxipod"? I can see the parodies now.... "starts in white... ends up red"
15... that's better... you must have edited? first it said 10g going to 50 and I was dreading telling my boss who just bought a 10 gig at my recommendation. 15's not so bad.
Wiigii! real maximize in windows!
Uh... but guys... needs a little work, it's ignoring my dual monitor settings and just blasting that baby fullscreen across both monitors instead of maximizing to current monitor like every other application does. They must have rolled the code for this, too...
Hi -
We're looking at replacing an IBM PC kiosk with a new iMac, but we need to be able to lock it down and preferably lock the browser (safari or omniweb, preferably) into full-screen or at least maximized mode.
I found some good instructions here for locking down...
God, grow up.
Besides, I'm pretty sure it's the linux folks who think the entire world should be free (either beer or speech or both)... that's rather the point of the open source movement, isn't it?
Go back to slashdot if you feel the need to troll. Perhaps there someone will care. Of...
And that can only get them so far... once it's available on windows, the percentages will change, but the total will go up.
The number of people who would buy a mac to use itunes is rather limited, after all. When was the last time you spent over 1000 bucks to use a piece of software that has...
Speak for yourself. *this* bank developer's online banking site was tested in safari before IE. :-)
I think there are some tiny javascript things that don't work 100% because of the javascript IDE we use, but they're just client-side error handling, server side still works.
Your math's...
Non-square pixels... might that actually refer to adding in some kind of advanced antialiasing, like WinXP and OSX use for fonts? Subpixel font rendering, etc...

Perhaps they'll do 2U or 3U G5 XServs and leave the 1U at the cooler-running G4. I know that'd make a lot of network folks happy, since they tell me wiring up a 1U on a rack can be a real bitch, especially if you have to occasionally move stuff from one rack to another.
Of course, the main...
