    Texas

Well, I don't think you have much to complain about governor-wise as your only alternative would be Tony Sanchez, a freshman Democrat who supports the President when it is profitable for him, but distances himself when he starts getting flak. In addition, he is for affirmative action, against...

    Very slow Jaguar shutdown

You all are talking about never shutting down or having to restart, Jaguar crashed on me in the first 10 after installing it. I was trying to mount servers and what not and it came up with this little screen that said, "You need to restart your computer now" in like 5 different languages. The...

    Very slow Jaguar shutdown

has anyone noticed how slow Jaguar shuts down compared to 10.1? It takes at least 20 seconds, when 10.1 took about 2. This seriously bites if there is no way to fix it because I enjoyed the snappiness of the shutdown on my Mac.

    10.2 $69 + Tax

I am so glad someone looked, or else I would have forgotten to check for an educational discount. I am completely eligible for it too, and now I am quite happy to be a college student. $70 is much better than $130.

    Official MacWorld Keynote Discussion Thread

we have jumped a whopping 133 Mhz since this time last year in maximum single processor speed!!! And there is little hope that this will change anytime soon. What an achievement. I am proud.

He had better be getting to some phat hardware soon. Unfortunately, I am not too optimistic.

    DVD Screen Shootin

Can't attach a file in Navigator, but here is the screenshot. One interesting note, the movie must be paused or else it looks like the picture was moving, I guess because there were more fps in the movie than the fraction of a second Mac OS X used to take the screenshot. Just pause it and...

    DVD Screen Shootin

Download VideoLAN client from versiontracker.com and it plays DVD's. I am pretty sure you can just use the screen capture function like usual when the DVD is playing. In fact, it does work, I just did it. Here is a shot from the Ocean's Eleven DVD.

    Which Windows features?

Annihilatus, DivX movies can be watched and enjoyed to their "full extent" just like in Windows, only sometimes it takes a freeware app to convert something, but nothing over two minutes time. DivX in OS X works wonderfully (it could only be better if you could do everything in Quicktime), and...

    New Apple Ads

I too quickly noticed the lack of diversity in the bunch of people they chose to do the Apple ads. You'd think they would put at least one African-American or Hispanic or something. Hey, the funniest of the iMac ads features a black man, why couldn't they use one for this? I would like...

Repent for being a Mac user!!

hey guys, I'll be absent a few days from the board, but as soon as I come back I'll see what I missed. I have to get my wisdom teeth pulled, so I will be even smarter when I return. :p Haha Hopefully I don't have any nerves wrapped around roots or anything nasty like that. Anyways, I'll be...

Repent for being a Mac user!!

Just a quick clarification, I'll come back later and see what's going on. "Christianity is a thinking man's religion"... I am sorry I caused a misunderstanding. I didn't mean that smart, thinking people choose Christianity, or that other religions aren't for thinking people, only that...

Repent for being a Mac user!!

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the responses to my post, and am extremely impressed with the civility of this thread. I did intend the math comment as a joke, but love the responses it got. There are just a few points I would like to bring up. I am not sure whether or not this has been...

Repent for being a Mac user!!

Unfortunately, I missed out on the meat of the discussion a few weeks ago because of finals. Thank you MDLarson for defending our faith (Christianity), and wish I had been there to help, although I don't agree with you on everything (esp. the Creation stuff). My father is a geophysicist and...

Worst Mac OS X mistake you can do...

I did that exact thing over Christmas break and have not fully recovered since then. I am going to do a complete wipe this weekend, now that I got my DVD-RW's burning in OS 9. Yes, applying those privileges to all folders sucks, I had huge problems. Unfortunately, as I was on the brink of...

    CD and DVD burning

After expending a little bit of effort, I got Disc Burner to install from my System Software CD by doing a custom installation. Then after restarting, my CD-R's mounted like they should on the desktop. But the DVD-RW and DVD-R were not able to mount on the HD like the CD-R. Then I found I...

    CD and DVD burning

I have a quicksilver G4 w/ a Superdrive and I am having problems burning anything from my drive. I was trying to burn a DVD-RW disc from OS 9, but it gave me some weird updating disc window when I tried to initialize it. So then I tried a regular CD-R that should mount on the desktop after...

    reinstalling OS X

SimX, thanks a lot for all the info, I haven't done anything yet, but as soon as I can, I'll try to fix my problems. One question, what if we have already changed the privileges of the system files? What commands do we use to give those privileges back to the root only? I suppose that the...

    reinstalling OS X

Okay, so privileges have been completely trashed, and reinstalling OS X is in the cards. I looked all over the Apple website and couldn't find an honest, straightforward answer to my problem. Just two questions. Is there a way to install only the system files, not the all the applications and...
