    Internet Connect and other problems

Looks like Apple have pulled that bloke's site. Maybe they have an update almost ready... BTW, the patched .kext really works ;)

Mac OS X in Linux Lan or Windows Lan

They don't currently show up in the Network window. You have to click on 'Go>Connect to Server' and type in: smb://domain_or_workgroup_name;computer_name/share_name or smb://domain_or_workgroup_name;user_name@computer_name/share_name So to connect to the XP box I use at work I type...

    Pal NTSC????

If you're using your computer to output DVD to a TV then whatever format the computer is set to output (PAL/NTSC) is how the DVD will play regardless of the format of the DVD. I stayed with friends in the US last summer and we watched several PAL DVDs on an NTSC TV through her Pismo. :)

    Pal NTSC????

Most modern SECAM TVs should be able to display a PAL picture though. IIRC, the main difference between PAL and SECAM is that PAL displays odd and even lines alternately and SECAN is a sequential scan (it displays the entire screen in one pass). They're both 625 line/50Hz systems.

Connecting to a NT 4 server

Unfortunately SMB shares are not available to Classic apps. All Sharity does is to provide browsing services to the SMB part of OS X so that you don't have to use the Connect To Server menu. AFAIK the only way for Classic apps to access Windows machines is via SFM.

    Pal NTSC????

And is actually a black & white TV system with colour 'bolted on'. NTSC runs at 525 lines of resolution. As it was designed from the start to be a colour TV system (no Tint/Hue control required). It's also worth noting that modern PAL TVs aren't restricted to 50Hz scan and many can easily...

    Themes, PLEASE!

Those themes are nice, but it'd be nicer to be able to have the ease of use of OS 9 themes. :)

    Themes, PLEASE!

I definitely agree on the subject of themes. It was one of the reasons I bought my first Mac just over a year ago. PLEASE bring back themes, Apple! :)

    Jaguar - Mac OS X 10.2

IIRC, I just enabled a checkbox on the Win2K side (right-click the connection and select 'Properties') and a dialog popped up telling me that I had to set the client computers to use DHCP. I just set the Mac to use DHCP over Ethernet and it worked. Myself and a friend were able to...

    Jaguar - Mac OS X 10.2

Worked fine for me with a Win2K machine and an OS 9 machine

Keyboard Function Key Issue in PowerBook

I had the same problem on my Pismo recently. What you need to do is boot into OS 9 and use the Keyboard control panel from there. That should set it back to the behaviour you want. :)

    System freeze when dialing modem

Here's a copy of the feedback I just submitted to Apple:

    System freeze when dialing modem

Found a possible solution over at the Apple discussion forum. Someone there suggested copying the modem script from my OS 9 partition (System Folder:Extensions:Modem Scripts). Seems to be better, although I have recently rebooted. Time will tell...

    System freeze when dialing modem

Oh well, maybe in the next update... Thanks for the prompt response :)

    System freeze when dialing modem

Every time I try to dial my ISP via the internal modem in my G3 'Pismo' PowerBook the entire system freezes for exactly a minute. By 'freeze' I mean that the whole system becomes unresponsive. The dock fails to respond to mouseovers, the menu-bar clock fails to update, the mouse pointer...

    Ethernet and Modem

Looks like I may have found the solution. I managed to find a checkbox in Sharity's config page to turn off DNS lookups so that it only uses NETBIOS lookups. Seems to have done the trick. I'm quite pleased now. I have a PowerEdge 2100/180 (Pentium-Pro 180) with 3 x 4GB SCSI hard disks (and an...

Legal copies of Mac OS X

IIRC, you have to use the version of Disk Copy that comes with OS X to make a .dmg file. There should be a menu option to 'make image from device' which should make a complete copy, invisible files and all.

    Ethernet and Modem

I'm probably doing something really dumb here, but here goes... I'm trying to connect my Pismo to an NT Server using Sharity (although the same problem happens with SFM and SMB), and have my internet connection use the internal modem. Here's the problem: When I move 'Ethernet' to the top...
