I have Macbook air m1, i want to buy EGPU to play game with my macbook. Can i do that ?

I have a USB controller and it only works sometimes. Yesterday it was working perfectly, no problems. Today I try and my mac just isn't detecting it. I've tried all the USB ports and nothing changes.
