Smoothly going from 9 to X with Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Snapshot.

glad i could be of (somewhat limited) help. I originally shelled out the clams for the card so I could get DVDs to work in Mac OS X (the hardware decoder card that I paid extra for in '99 was unsupported by X in '00). Lo and behold, I noticed incredible improvements in my graphics apps, and...

Smoothly going from 9 to X with Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Snapshot.

Having a first gen g4 could be the root of your problems. You are a graphics professional. You are using a PCI graphics subsystem, which is vastly inferior to the AGP standard (which itself is soon to be eclipsed by PCI Extreme, Hypertransport, etc.). Anyway, the point is, your computer...

    OS X--incredibly slow

First of all, the Help taking a long time to launch ... well, that's because its trying to snag updates from online to make sure you have the latest help file. Its pretty much undocumented, but that's what's happening and why it takes a while to load. If you launch it, let it do its thing...

    .mov to CD

Yes, CD's burned with the Finder are compatible with PCs. No extra software needed. The reason you can't burn a folder in Disk Copy is because that's not what Disk Copy is for. Disk Copy is for making Disk Images from CDs or other volumes and burning/copying said images back to CDs or other...

Fileshare between two OSX macs via modem?

Get yourself an AirPort base station w/a modem. it'll allow you to serve up the internet like a dial-up ISP from your DSL connection to the phone line, and give you access to the entire local area network and any networked printers you may have. easy as pie.

    shares not mounting on login

There's a little app out there called AFP Automount. Search on versiontracker for it. It will take care of this issue - I believe it invokes an applescript to mount the drives rather than relying strictly on resolving aliases. Works like a charm for me.

ATI October 2002 Update fixed my wake-from-sleep corruption with Radeon 7000!

Maybe its just me but ... I noticed that 10.2.3 in combination with the new drivers from ATI have disabled OpenGL support for me. The ATI drivers are listed as being for Mac OS 10.2.1 at the most. So I can't run any OpenGL based games, and my screen savers suck cuz they don't pan or fade or...

Can Some One Tell Me About Ram and OS X

RAM is gooooooooooooood. Going from 256 in a beige G3 to 768 was a huge difference. Next comes the Radeon 7000 card for graphics, fast ethernet for my network, and the superdrive i picked up for $210 (and even better - its black, so it'll match my modded/painted case). Who says old Macs...

    The Jaguar Bugs Thread

-- When I mount a remote volume, the /Volumes folder opens in a new Finder window at the same time the icon appears on my desktop. here too. that's really annoying. Also, iChat downloads things to the right place, SORT OF: My second partition is called "Blue Meanie Data." When iChat...

    Mac upgrade question...

radeon 7000 is a great card for a PCI machine or a second video card for an AGP machine. but if you want to replace the main graphics board in an AGP tower, you really need to get an AGP card to take advantage of all the oogey benefits that AGP has over PCI.

What is the most popular Hard Disk Name?

I haven't had any of the naming broken-links problems, and I have changed HD names and configs a lot. Perhaps because I'm talking to my network by IP address and not broadcast name. And I've renamed my hard disks multiple times in a single day and not one broken link. weird.

An online petition about Jaguar upgrade unfairness...

look, 129 is a bargain for all the hard work and new features put into 10.2. The only reason I'm pissed is cuz they are asking me to buy Jag, new QT Pro key, and .Mac all at the same time. If they hadn't released them all within 2 weeks of each other, it wouldn't have been so bad, but now I...

    One and a half problems..

TomeViewer may allow you to manually extract the QuickTime files that go into your system folder. If that works, I would then recommend running the installer again to make sure everything goes where it needs to go. But if you extract the core QuickTime components, you should be able to at...

    Mac upgrade question...

If you need it now, get the Radeon 8500. If you can wait, get the newest Radeon cards that were just announced at Macworld....

What are you looking forward to most in Jaguar?

MINIMIZE IN PLACE GOT AXED?!?!? That sux! I was really looking forward to that to. Is it not in the newer builds of 10.2? I really hate having to go to the Dock for all my minimized windows, especially if I just need to minimize for a short period of time. Damn!
